About Taneha Coleman
Hi, I’m Taneha Coleman — a 5th-grade math teacher with 14 years of experience in Texas classrooms, and the founder of Structured Teachers HQ.
I didn’t build this because I had everything figured out. I built it because I spent years watching talented, hardworking teachers struggle — not because they lacked dedication, but because they lacked structure. They were handed standards, pacing guides, and expectations with no real framework for how to teach with clarity and depth.
I was that teacher, too. And once I figured out what was missing, I couldn’t stop thinking about how many teachers were still in that place.
Teachers don’t lack effort. They lack structure.
My story
I’ve spent 14 years in Texas classrooms teaching 5th-grade math. I’ve worked in multiple districts and watched the same pattern repeat everywhere: the year starts strong, the pacing holds for a few weeks, and then somewhere around October it quietly falls apart.
The problem was never the teachers. It was that nobody had built them a foundation — a sequenced, intentional system that shows not just what to teach, but why the order matters.
That’s what I set out to build. First, for myself. Then, for every teacher who deserved better than a disconnected pile of worksheets and a pacing guide that made no sense.
What I believe about teaching math
I believe that conceptual understanding comes before procedures — always. A student who understands why 0.3 and 0.30 are equal will never make that mistake on a test. A student who was just told the rule might.
I believe that the TEKS say more than most teachers realize. The language is specific. The verbs matter. The constraints matter. Most professional development glosses right over this — and then wonders why students aren’t mastering the standards.
I believe that a well-sequenced year is one of the most powerful things you can give a teacher. When every lesson connects to the one before it and sets up the one after it, teaching stops feeling like survival and starts feeling intentional.
What I’ve built
Structured Teachers HQ exists to help educators build unified, rigorous instructional systems grounded in conceptual understanding and intentional planning.
That looks like three things in practice:
• A sequenced library of 5th-grade math resources through the Lasso the TEKS TPT store — warm-ups, practice pages, exit tickets, and pacing tools built in the order students actually need them
• The TEKS Unpacked resource — a deep-dive into every 5th-grade math standard that gives teachers clarity on what each TEKS actually requires before they plan a single lesson
• Coaching and mentoring for teachers who need more than resources — they need a thinking partner who understands what it actually feels like to be in that classroom

A note for new teachers If you’re in your first or second year of teaching, I see you. Campus mentoring has quietly disappeared from a lot of schools, but the need hasn’t gone away. You’re doing one of the hardest jobs there is with less support than you deserve. That’s exactly why the coaching side of this work exists. |
